Leominster · on the Buttercross · frames, lenses & reglazes

The optician that makes the glasses, selling them straight to you.

We are an independent dispensing optician on the High Street in Leominster. For years we have made up prescription glasses for other opticians, so we buy lenses at the trade price and pass it on. Bring your prescription, or a frame you already love, and we will fit it on our own bench. Single vision from 20 pounds, varifocals from 65, reglazes while you wait with no fee.

WHAT WE DO

Four ways we keep your glasses honest.

Frames and lenses, a complete pair

Hundreds of frames for ladies, gents and children, from plain unbranded to Radley, Tommy Hilfiger, Fila, Fendi, O’Neill and Superdry, all priced well below the high street. Bring your prescription and walk out with a finished pair. Single vision from 20 pounds, bifocals from 45, varifocals from 65.

Reglazes, while you wait, no fee

Fond of a frame you already own? We fit new lenses into it. There is no reglaze fee, so you pay for the lenses and nothing else, and most reglazes are done in-house in about ten minutes while you wait. No need to throw away a frame just because the prescription changed.

Lens options without the upsell

Thinner high-index lenses, anti-glare coatings and lenses that react with the sun, explained plainly so you only pay for what helps. Premium varifocals from Hoya, Essilor Varilux and Rodenstock; everyday lenses from a UK maker we have worked with for fifteen years.

Frame refurbishment

A five-step tidy-up for a frame worth keeping: we check its condition, clean it in the ultrasonic bath, re-polish it, fit fresh nose pads and re-align it on the bench. A small charge, and a frame that feels new again.

PRICES · A COMPLETE PAIR

One price, frame and lenses together.

No supermarket-style selling, no add-ons pushed at the counter. These are starting prices for a complete pair, frame and lenses, with hundreds of frames in the range. Bring your own frame and you pay for the lenses only.

Single vision from £20 frame and lenses, a complete pair
Bifocal from £45 frame and lenses, a complete pair
Varifocal from £65 frame and lenses, Hoya, Essilor or Rodenstock available

Designer frames from Radley, Tommy Hilfiger, Fila, Fendi, O’Neill and Superdry are stocked well below the usual high-street price. Thinner lenses, anti-glare and reactions are extra, and we tell you what each one is for before you decide.

WHY WE ARE CHEAPER

Four reasons the same lenses cost less here.

It is not a sale, and nothing is cut from the quality. It is how the shop is built. We explain it plainly because the chains rarely do.

“We have spent years making glasses for other opticians. The Vision Factory is the same glasses, sold straight to you.” Neil, founder, twenty-five years in the optical trade
01
We make for the trade We make up prescription glasses for other high-street opticians, so we buy lenses at wholesale-lab prices and pass the difference to you.
02
Dispensing only We do not test eyes, so there is no test-room overhead to carry. Bring a current prescription and we take it from there.
03
Glazed in-house Lenses are cut and fitted on our own bench, not sent away, which is why a reglaze is ten minutes rather than ten days.
04
A high-street shop A small shop on the Buttercross, not a retail-park flagship, so the overhead stays low and the price stays honest.
The black-and-white town Grange Court, John Abel’s 1633 market hall, is two minutes from the shop.
OUR STORY · A YOUNG SHOP, AN OLD TRADE

Twenty-five years at the bench, now on your High Street.

Neil spent more than twenty-five years in the optical industry, designing frames and managing the making of spectacles for opticians up and down the country. In 2017 he opened The Vision Factory in Worcester with Bimal, an optometrist, on a simple idea: sell the trade’s own glasses straight to the public.

In August 2022 the Leominster shop opened at 5 High Street, on the Buttercross where Broad Street, Drapers’ Lane and Church Street meet, and closer to Neil’s home town of Bromyard. It is a small shop in a town known for its timber-framed buildings, and that suits us, the lower the overhead, the lower the price.

1990s Neil starts a career in the optical industry, designing, manufacturing and managing the making of spectacles, over twenty-five years in all.

REGLAZES

Keep the frame you love. Change the lenses.

A prescription changes, a frame does not have to. Bring in a frame you already own and we fit fresh lenses to it. There is no reglaze fee, so the lens price we quote is the price you pay, and most reglazes are glazed in-house in about ten minutes while you wait.

  • 1 Bring your frame and your prescription
  • 2 We measure, then cut the lenses on the bench
  • 3 Fitted and checked, usually about ten minutes

Frame seen better days? Our five-step refurbishment checks, ultrasonic-cleans, re-polishes, re-pads and re-aligns it for a small charge.

Lenses cut to the frame on our own bench, not sent away.

FAQ

Questions we get at the counter.

Do you test eyes?

No, we are a dispensing optician, which means we make and fit glasses rather than test sight. Bring a current prescription from your eye test, less than two years old as a rule, and we will sort the rest.

Can you put new lenses in my own frame, and what does a reglaze cost?

Yes. We fit new lenses into a frame you already own and there is no reglaze fee, so you pay for the lenses only. Most reglazes are glazed in-house in about ten minutes while you wait.

How are you cheaper than the chains?

We make up glasses for other opticians, so we buy at wholesale-lab prices. We do not test eyes, we glaze in-house, and we keep a small high-street shop. Four reasons the same lenses cost less here, with no selling gimmicks.

Do you do varifocals, thinner lenses and reactions?

Yes. Varifocals from Hoya, Essilor Varilux and Rodenstock, thinner high-index lenses, anti-glare coatings and photochromic lenses that react with the sun. We explain what each one is for so you pay only for what helps.

Do you stock designer frames?

Hundreds of frames, from plain unbranded right up to Radley, Tommy Hilfiger, Fila, Fendi, O’Neill and Superdry, all well below the usual high-street price. Children’s frames too.
